Our new little friends

Over the holiday break Josh and I wanted to be sure to get a few projects done. We had a whole list of things we wanted to accomplish but the timing didn't work out on any of them, except one: chickens! We knew that we wanted to get some egg laying hens and thankfully we found just the right ones.
I love when the timing works out just right on things. Our kids were so happy, especially Selah, our animal whisperer.
The kids named the black hens Blackberry & Pomegranate, until we came across this nursery rhyme, then they thought their nicknames should be Hickety & Pickety. ;) My friend Sheri suggested a name like Henrietta.

Josh did a great job working on the coop. The kids each helped. Selah nailed in the boards for the ladder inside, and Jude helped saw boards for the laying boxes. (Jude wore safety goggles and did some practice runs with Josh before he assisted, just fyi. ;)
Granddad so graciously brought his tractor over and helped us get the coop all situated in the right place so that the hens would be ready to roam free by day and sleep safe by night, and not easily escape to the neighbors. ;)
Don't worry, Lonely, we haven't forgotten about you! You will always be our favorite! ;)
