Our time in the ER was a bit traumatic, as Ben cried for about 4 hours straight. The doctors and nurses were so wonderful and did a great job with our very scared and hurting boy. They gave him 4 rounds of meds to help him really calm down so that they could get an x-ray and get the cast on him. By midnight he was finally calm and sleepy, and we made it home to tuck him in around 2am. We're so thankful that Dad and Janet happened to walk in our door seconds after Ben's accident because they were able to stay with the big kids and get them to bed, while we took Ben to the hospital! God's timing on that was so perfect.
This was right before the cast went on and the meds were working- putting on our brave faces for the pic.We look pretty convincing if I do say so myself. :)
This before and after is to help explain why his face was so red. ;) He'd had his face painted earlier in the day and he cried most of it off. :(
The first couple of days Ben couldn't even sit up, and he just laid in bed. Josh and I have been sleeping in the same room as him every night. Selah and Jude have been so helpful and attentive and they've made this whole thing all the more manageable.
Doing crafts together.
By the third day Ben sat up and asked to go outside. Josh pulled our strolled out of the attic and got it all set up, and we made it out! Ben was so excited! Yep, I pushed him around while a chicken rode on his lap. ;)
He's had such a good attitude through this all and he's his normal bubbly self, even if he's immobile.
Lego time.
Today Ben got a glow-in-the-dark cast, and another x-ray, and everything is healing well. They'll continue to monitor his healing with more x-rays. He'll be in the full leg cast for 6 weeks.
He got a treat on the way home to share with his siblings. ;) I thought this little cooler set up that Josh put together to transport Ben was pretty cute.
Even though this was an unexpected turn in our summer plans (no swim lessons, etc.), no sprinklers, no swimming at Granny's pool, no bike riding, etc. we are finding many fun things to do together! And we are so thankful for Grandparents who have stopped in to lavish Ben with love and attention, and puzzles, coloring books, and fun things to keep him busy! Thank you!! We are blessed. xoxo
